A Study Case: Comprehensive Analysis of Hydraulic Fracturing in Tight Reservoir

A successful hydraulic fracturing implementation involves both technical and economic consideration. Started by designing and evaluating fracturing job to the economic terms that successful job can be indicated by positive net present value (NPV) and discounted profit to investment (DPI) more than 1.2 (Bagus Prasetyo, 2015). This paper presents a case where a pressure build-up test of Y reservoir resulted in a less than 0.144 mD of initial permeability (k), 0.209 skin (s) and reservoir pressure (Ps) of approximately 4,000 psia. RSI-16 well produces from the abovementioned Y reservoir has recorded a production up to 37 BOPD and 0.158 MMSCFD. Thus hydraulic fracturing program is required to improve well productivity. Step rate test is carried out with values ranging from 0.4-14.7 bpm. Step up analysis showed extension pressure approximately 2,234.82 psia and extension gradient of 0.68 psi/ft at 0.92 bpm. Step down analysis showed perforation dominates friction. Mini frac was conducted by pumping 180 bbl OptimusHT and 68 bbl displace fluid at 15 bpm. G-function derivative analysis showed instantaneous shut-in pressure (ISIP) approximately 2,634.1 psi, 1,755.5 psi closure pressure (Pc), 878.6 psi net pressure and delta closure time (?tc) is 4.06 minutes. The main frac was completed by pumping 27,972 gallons of OptimusHT and 44,142 lbs Carbolite 20/40 at 15 bpm. Post job simulation using MFracTM inform 32 meters fracture length, 0.37 inches width and 6.1 dimensionless fracture conductivity (FCD). Regression analysis showed ISIP approximately 2,691 psi, 1,556.4 psi Pc, 1,134.6 psi net pressure and ?tc is 14.28 minutes. Based on the assessment, the hydraulic fracturing program was considered successful. The post job analysis showed 20.2 mD permeability, -4.97 skin and productivity index increase 2.9 times. Production increase to 128 BOPD and 1.67 MMSCFD. Assume oil price of $60/barrel and gas price of $4.22/MMBtu, obtained NPV of $682,678.90 and DPI of approximately 10.3. Thus hydraulic fracturing program was concluded as a successful job.
