A Successful Story of De-Bottlenecking the Jangkrik Complex Facilities from Initial Design Capacity of 450 MMSCFD to 750 MMSCFD

Jangkrik Floating Production Unit (FPU) was originally designed to process gas from Jangkrik Main and Jangkrik North East Fields. At the time new gas field discoveries and future prospects opportunities were subsequently defined in the surrounding area to achieve higher production capacity, a comprehensive debottlenecking evaluation was conducted to determine the maximum FPU gas processing capability in the new expected operating condition. The new condition comprises of increasing the gas production rate, initially in High Pressure (HP), which is then followed with the complexity of lower inlet pressure from JKK (Jangkrik Main) Field, and additional production from Merakes (MKS) fields that requires the FPU to operate in “dual pressure mode” (low pressure and high pressure) and “low pressure (LP) mode” at later stage. To accommodate the above conditions, several modifications had been made to the FPU processing units and operating conditions. A systematic approach to assess the maximum capability of all installed processes and equipment was employed to determine the required modifications in achieving the new production target. The first step was to analyze the new operating conditions to determine the process duty requirements and identify any need to modify systems and equipment. A safety assessment such as Hazard Operability (HAZOP), Hazard Identification (HAZID), and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) was completed to ensure that any risk associated with the new operating condition were addressed and mitigated. Then, both minor equipment modifications such as replacement of valves and thermowells and major modifications such as installation of a third slug catcher were executed and timed to minimize loss of production. Further modifications are also planned to be anticipated for the Dual and LP mode such as the installation of three Booster Gas Compressors (BGC) and further modifications to the FPU utilities by preparing points for tie-ins for this new equipment to the existing system. The final step of the facility de-bottlenecking is to test and confirm the new operating conditions and obtain a new operating permit from the national authority.
