An Artificial Intelligence Approach to Unlock the Highest Cyclic Steam Stimulation Job in Duri Field

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 47th Ann. Conv., 2023

Duri field is operating + 6000 producers in which well intervention activities become critical to maintaining well performance. One type of well intervention job in Duri field operation is cyclic steam stimulation. This thermal stimulation technique is used by injecting steam into a well to heat the oil, which lowers its viscosity and allows it to flow more easily. Typically, cyclic steam stimulation performed in Duri Field is a short cyclic job, which the objective is for cleaning up the wellbore with good oil gain (4 BOPD/job) and cheaper cost ($400/job) compares to other stimulation jobs such as acid stimulation and solvent treatment. Since 2015, cyclic stimulation activity levels in Duri Field increased from 50 jobs/month to 350 jobs/month. Petroleum Engineer (PE) reviewed cyclic candidates with a manual process which may lead to potentially inefficient & un-consistent processes. The team has successfully delivered candidates with a shorter cycle time and improved job success rate by Artificial Intelligence Tool. The project team will elaborate on the evolution of Artificial Intelligence Tool development and the effort to unlock the highest cyclic job execution in Duri Field with an additional 5000 BOPD oil gain.
