Analysis wellbore ballooning in Latih Formation, East Kalimantan

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 39th Ann. Conv., 2015

TBY-1 well was drilled in January 2014 with Total Depth (TD) 5810 ft and 74 drilling days. 12-1/4 in.hole section was drilled to 4,883 ft and got mostly siltstone. At TD section the well hadintermittent gas bubbles withsmall returns. A decision was made to increase mud weight to 12.2 lb/gal as the LOT taken at 2988 ftwas 12 lb/gal. 9-5/8 in.casing was run to 4099 ft and the hole startedlosing circulation. The well was filled up from the annulus and remained static after pumpeing all the surface drilling fuidvolume. 9-5/8 in. casing was continued to run until 4814 ft while taking gain. At TD, the well was circulated to condition mud to 11.8 lb/gal and the cement job was performed withoutany significant problem. After the cement job, the well started flowing. This paper will focus in analyzing the problem between the real kick andwellboreballooning from drilling data, resistivity, and Cement Bond Log (CBL) log at 9-5/8 in.casing.
