Corrosion control at the Badak gas production facilities : an update

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 11th Ann. Conv., 1982

The internal corrosion control program for the Badak Gas Production Facilities discussed in a paper presented at the May 1980 IPA, has been successful. There have not been any failures due to internal corrosion damage in $he Badak gas condensate wells, flowlines, or gas processing facilities since 1979. However, a few well tubulars still show a slight increase in internal corrosion damage with each caliper survey.Program changes have been made to improve protection and to reduce cost. Decreasing bottom hole pressure and possible well damage have eliminated the squeeze treatment in most wells. A new inhibitor treatment technique using wireline tools is being investigated. Also, internal plastic coated tubing with integral joints will be used in all new completions and workovers. One flowline repture and several flowline leaks have occurred. In each case the external corrosion damage occurred under disbonded external coating. The disbonding was shown to be the result of a combination of wrong coating and poor application. A new coating and application procedure were adopted to correct this problem.
