Corrosion mitigation and monitoring techniques at Badak/Nilam gas production facilities

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 12th Ann. Conv., 1983

Various techniques are used for corrosion Mitigation and monitoring at the Badak/Nilam gas processing facilities. The primary corrodant is carbon dioxide, but trace amounts of hydrogen sulphate are present.Mitigation techniques used include corrosion inhibitors for both surface and downhole equipment, cathodic protection, and coatings.Effective corrosion monitoring is essential for the success of any Mitigation program, Techniques used at the Badak/ Nilam gas processing facilities include regular visual inspection of all equipment, weight loss coupons, hydrogen probes, analysis of produced water for iron, ph, and chloride ion concentrations, ultrasonic thickness measurements, radiography caliper surveys, and electronic corrosion rate measurement with electrical resistance and pair probes.
