Flawless Execution of Banyu Urip Full Field Development (FFD) Completion Campaign Delivers Best in Class Well Capacity

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 40th Ann. Conv., 2016

Development of the Banyu Urip field in Indonesia will contribute almost 20% of Indonesia's national oil production. ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL)collaborated with Halliburton Indonesiahave delivered highly successful completion operations on 39 carbonate wells with zero equipment functional failure and impressive Non-Productive Time (NPT) performance of less than 2.5%. The flawless execution of the Banyu Urip program created value for all stakeholders by delivering higher well capacity and productivity exceeding pre-drill predictions and enhancing skill sets, competency and experience of national staff for future campaigns. The Banyu Urip field, the path to service quality excellence began with establishing a robust completion strategy followed by rigorous work processes to implement the strategy into effective planning and executions. At the forefront of the work processes, detailed design reviews were conducted to select and verify cost effective and optimum solutions and technologies. Concurrently, a stringent Quality Plan was established for manufacturing process to ensure that all equipment is manufactured in accordance with the design and qualified to meet the challenging well conditions that include high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The rig-based execution phase used detailed procedures that incorporated risk assessment results and contingency to ensure consistent operation and that lessons learned are continuously captured and implemented. At all cases, the processes were executed only as strong as the team executing them. The Banyu Urip project, one of key success for the completions campaign was to establish an experienced and dynamic team across both Halliburton and EMCL. At early stage, the team focused on developing young national engineers in all phases of the work processes, start from receiving inspection of equipment in-country to field execution. To further strengthen the work processes and personnel competency, Halliburton undertook the initiative to become API-Q2 certified during the campaign, which helped to achieve excellent completion execution on every well by implementing enhanced quality workflows. In this campaign, EMCL and Halliburton demonstrated that correct combination of work processes, technologies, and effective team led to flawless execution while delivering enhanced well capacity and productivity to the Banyu Urip field stakeholders.
