Full-life well lookbacks in EMP Gelam: a new simple and graphical approach

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 39th Ann. Conv., 2015

Well lookbacks? They are often complex with a dull format that is difficult to understand. Inputs and outputs are often not explained well, so that the reviewer struggles to understand the messages of the lookbacks. Sometimes lookbacks did not do their job to show us how efficiently the project was done, and where to improve in the future. The EMP Gelam Team redefined the well lookback format using a simple graphical approach using monthly increments. Reviewers can easily see and understand the actual cash flow outcome: not just for the initial drilling, but also for subsequent activities such as fracture-stimulations and workovers, as well as the cash flow forecast to contract expiry. They could also easily analyze and compare the pre job and the post job summary of the projects to make future projects more efficient. There are also benefits for field evaluation and cost monitoring for Oil and/or Gas wells. The team applied the format to five production wells drilled after the acquisition of 3D seismic data in 2008. Fascinatingly, the lookback results sometimes ran against our gut-feelings. This paper presents the workflow, methods and results of Full-Life Well lookbacks in EMP Gelam.
