Important aspects of floating LNG facility from production assurance view points

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 35th Ann. Conv., 2011

INPEX Masela, Ltd (INPEX) plans to develop the Abadi gas field located within the Masela Block in the Arafura Sea with a floating liquefied natural gas facility (FLNG). In addition to topsides floating LNG facility, understandings of the effects of the short pipelines between LNG process and producing gas wells are one of the key components to the success of this project. Objectives of this paper are to describe key factors of effects of short pipeline for a FLNG project. One of the main advantages of the FLNG over the conventional onshore LNG projects is lower cost for the pipeline investment between wellheads and LNG process. However relatively small gas inventory in the short flowlines brings some operational difficulties which are more emphasized compared to the conventional LNG projects. To investigate effects of short flowline on LNG operations, a dynamic model from bottomhole of wells to the topsides inlet slugcatcher was constructed with a fluid dynamic simulator, OLGA. Through this paper, we would like to present main differences between FLNG and conventional LNG from the view points of short flowlines.
