Integrated Seismic Attributes and AVO Analysis in the Faults and Hydrocarbon Leakage Extraction

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 43rd Ann. Conv., 2019

3D seismic attributes are widely used to help the interpretation of seismic data. However, the number of attributes that can be generated are abundant, and therefore knowing which one to use for specific target is crucial. Furthermore, identification of faults as hydrocarbon migration agent is also important in the petroleum system study. Thus, the aim of this work is to present the application of seismic attributes analysis in regard to identify and extract the fault distribution and hydrocarbon leakage with Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) analysis as a tool to help in mapping the distribution of hydrocarbon leakage. High-quality 3D seismic data is utilized in this work, providing images that represent the areal extent of the features. Conventional seismic interpretation, fault modeling and integration of seismic attributes and AVO analysis on both full-stack and partial-stack of the 3D seismic data led to identify, mapping and extraction of accumulated gas anomaly and its associated faults. These results giving accurate information on the further hydrocarbon volume calculation and field development strategy. The workflow presented on this study can help to understand which attributes that is effective to tackle the interpretation of hydrocarbon leakage and its associated faults. Furthermore, by combining the attributes and AVO analysis, one can observe how the faults are able to act as a conduit and trace where the leaked hydrocarbons are migrated and accumulated.
