KS Integrated Optimization Project – Success Story to Accelerate Oil Recovery in A 20+ Years Old Waterflood Field with a Subsurface Work Program and Surface Facilities Improvement

KS field is the main contributor of RMU Block. Operating since 1997, it reached peak production in 2001 with primary recovery, subsequently waterflood was introduced in 2003. Production decline is undoubtedly a fact in a mature field, on top of aging surface facilities operating for over 20 years. With more than 200 wells, 50 vessels/tanks, and 50 kms of piping network to maintain, well and facility integrity issues have been rising along with the decline in oil production and increase in total liquid production. The impact is in the higher operating costs due to the need for well and facilities maintenance. Effective measures must be taken to increase production, improve well/facility integrity and optimize cost. KS Integrated Optimization Project (KS-IOP) was initiated in Q2-2021 to optimize production, improve well/surface facilities integrity, and overcome capacity concerns. With 3 (three) main pillars in scope: Subsurface, Well, and Surface Facilities, KS-IOP’s focus is on planning, executing, and delivering an economically viable project. A subsurface work program has been developed to increase production by upsizing ESP’s and to increase injection well deliverability by acidizing/adding perforations. Water injection well integrity improvements have also become an important aspect, while on the surface side, with a fit-for-purpose approach, a comprehensive evaluation has been made and executed to improve the processing system with vessel repair and debottlenecking, to improve piping network integrity with inspection and repair campaign, and also to enhance the reliability of other supporting facilities (e.g., power system and network, water injection pump, chemical optimization). By Q1-2023, KS-IOP successfully delivered an oil production increase of 25%, a reversal of oil decline trend, and higher direct operating efficiency.
