Managing Single Train LNG – Challenges and Improvement

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 47th Ann. Conv., 2023

PT Donggi-Senoro LNG (DSLNG) is one of the LNG producing companies in Indonesia which has been operating since 2015. The DSLNG facility is located in Uso, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, approximately 45 kilometres south-west of Luwuk, the principal city of Banggai Regency. DSLNG is the first Indonesian LNG project developed as a ‘downstream business activity’ in accordance with Law No. 22 of 2001, which enables a separate development of upstream (feedstock gas supply) and downstream (LNG manufacturing) businesses. As a downstream company, DSLNG purchases natural gas, converts it into LNG, and sells it to customers. DSLNG operates a Single LNG liquefaction facility with an annual production capacity of about 2 million tons, utilizing APCI's proven C3/MR liquefaction technology (Air Products and Chemicals Incorporation). This paper will provide a brief explanation of the process flow in the plant, the challenges encountered in managing a Single Train LNG Operation to ensure the sustainability of safe and reliable plant operation, the performance indicators and achievements of DSLNG, and the enhancements made to the Technical and Operational of Process Plant, with the improvements in Maintenance and Reliability Strategy. Continuous improvement is deemed necessary to maintain plant safety and reliability in order to meet DSLNG's LNG long-term contract obligations, with the support of supply gas commitment from Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) with Upstream Gas Producer, especially during the current period of volatile LNG prices, while also meeting the social and environmental goals, so that the Company can continue to implement its vision of being a "World-Class LNG Operator."
