South Belut data acquisition: leveraging real time production data from iws wells for reservoir characterisation

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 39th Ann. Conv., 2015

South Belut is a COPI (ConocoPhillips Indonesia) operated dry gas, subsea development in Block-B in the South Natuna Sea. The development has 23 completed zones from seven subsea wells. Each of the wells is completed with an IWS (intelligent well system) completion. The IWS completions allow for independent opening and closing of each of the three or four separate zones completed in each well. Each zone has a pressure gauge recording zone bottom-hole pressure and every well has a subsea rate meter. The well rate readings and downhole pressure provide a good quality data set for use in production analysis and forecast model calibration. Rate and pressure data has been acquired both during clean-up of the wells following completion and during the producing life of the field, South Belut First Production was in April 2014. The usefulness of data gathered has been enhanced in a data acquisition campaign designed to capture more informative data. The basics of the program were to perform a two rate test on each zone then to shut-in that zone downhole for an extended pressure build-up. Analysis of the production data gathered to date has allowed for: • Calibration of well and pipeline models • Determination of zone IPR (In-flow performance) • Estimation of reservoir properties using PTA (pressure transient analysis) • Identification of zones in pressure communication • Initial calculation of zone GIIP (gas-initially-in-place) based on pressure depletion This Paper will outline, the equipment & steps used to acquire suitable production data, details on the analysis of the data, the calibration of a South Belut integrated model and the benefits realized from this effort.
