Success Story of Flow Channel Fracturing for Weathered Basement Reservoir at Jabung Block

Hydrocarbon potential of the weathered basement reservoir has not been fully developed in Jabung Block, South Sumatra Basin. For the long period, this reservoir potential has been believed already produced optimally with a limit remaining reserves. Using new method with flow channel fracturing proves to increase the production of this reservoir so it becomes interesting to be developed massively. Through new method for log evaluation from development wells in the Jabung Block can identify big potential of the weathered basement reservoir. Result from conventional perforation shows that the flowing rate not optimal, and some of the wells do not flow. Through pilot flow channel fracturing from three wells, developing new paradigm to produce this reservoir became very attractive. Flow channel fracturing in weathered basement become more challenging because of limitation geomechanics data and usually the lower reservoir, Talang Akar Formation, already produced with high water cut. It was decided to try fracturing and flow channel fracturing to produce the hydrocarbon from the weathered basement reservoir. Based on mini fract data, obtained reservoir pressure 1,700 psi on 4,700 ftTVDSS, modulus young 2.2 Mpsi, fract gradient 0.6 psi/ft. The result of fracturing on the gas well HS-01 obtained the rate of 6 MMSCFD, significant increase compared with previous conventional perforation at this well with rate only 0.6 MMSCFD. Through flow channel fracturing on oil well SPK-01 and SPK-02 at the neighbor structure got rate 146 BOPD and 300 BOPD. In relation to these results, more detailed evaluation of logs and mud logs and seismic attributes using AVO have been done and knowing hydrocarbon potential of weathered basement in 35 development wells that have not been developing yet. This new method continues to be used for other structures in Jabung Block, but geologically this reservoir potential also occurred in other basin in Indonesia.
