Sustain Production and Cost Effectiveness By Innovation in The Subsea System Troubleshooting at Medco E & P Natuna Ltd

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 46th Ann. Conv., 2022

The purpose of this paper is to share Medco Natuna Ltd experiences in solving every problem on subsea system with the cost effectiveness solution by implementing some innovation and new technology to sustain the subsea well production. In the future, Subsea well design might be an alternative and cost effective solution for the deep sea zone offering Capital and operating/ maintenance cost reduction by reducing surface processing needs. However the surveillance of integrity subsea system must be performed to predict any potential problem and avoid prolonged shutdown whereas the subsea system will require time and cost to bring ROV / diver vessel for troubleshooting work. In general, the most problems of Subsea well system are low insulation resistance on the subsea line, short circuit in cable, over voltage due to capacitive effect of long runs umbilical/ submarine cable, hydraulic line leak, etc. The above mentioned fault, even will not cause sudden trip or shut in the well, must be rectified soon to avoid escalation to be permanent fault causing loss of production and high cost troubleshooting. Medco E&P Natuna Ltd has successfully conducted effective and efficient troubleshooting, which result in a significant cost reduction by implementation of new technology for the low insulation resistance issue, modification of Subsea Power Control Unit (SPCU) Transformer for overvoltage problem as well as performed Subsea intervention for subsea equipment/ line troubleshooting and replacement, etc.
