Worst Case Discharge & Dynamic Well Killing Study for Supporting Blow-Out Contingency Plan: Pre-Drilled & Post-Production Case of Offshore Wells, Delta Mahakam

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 42nd Ann. Conv., 2018

Blow-out Contingency Plan (BOCP) is a mandatory document in Delta Mahakam for any drilling and wells activities including pre-drilling, production and post-production phase. It consists of 2 main parts: response plan and preliminary studies and become the main reference for the company to define a quick, integrated and robust action for blow out situation. The preliminary studies cover analysis for worst case discharge (WCD) & dynamic well killing, safety distance calculation (oil spill & gas dispersion), water management, relief well & rig specification, blow-out well intervention, logistic, time modeling and also few contractual works. These studies are performed internally by responsible expertise from various entities. WCD & dynamic well killing study are the critical parts of the BOCP document since the result will be used as main reference for other preliminary studies and create big impact for blow-out magnitude situation. WCD study for a reference well consists in reviewing the different well life cycle phase to identify greatest oil spill and highest gas flow rate. Its objective is to compute blow-out flow rate at the BOP/wellhead conditions by using PROSPER, steady state NODAL analysis software which involves subsurface, surface, and well architecture data. Based on this result, dynamic well killing study creates dynamic condition of well blow-out and performs well killing simulation based on defined scenario. OLGA, high-end well dynamic transient simulation software is used to create better prediction & analysis with the output: recommendation envelope of well killing parameters. 2 best practices are presented in this paper for predrilling & post production phase in which differently defined & analyzed for multi-layer reservoirs condition of offshore wells. The result could become the reference for the oil & gas company to define blow out analysis in order to create quick, integrated & robust action for blow out contingency plan.
