IPA Convex Youth Program 2026: Paving the Way for Young People to Enter the Energy Industry
The IPA Convention and Exhibition (IPA Convex) continue to foster the development of talented young people who will contribute to the advancement of the national energy industry. This commitment is realized through the Youth @ IPA Convex initiative, which presents the "Students Meet the IPA Boards" program, themed "50 Years of Energy Partnership: Shaping the Next Era for Advancing Growth."
This program provides an interactive platform that connects students with leaders in Indonesia's upstream oil and gas industry. Through these sessions, students will gain insight into the professional and leadership journeys of IPA board members, their stories of overcoming challenges, and the experiences that have shaped them into the individuals they are today, who are actively involved in the energy industry.
With the theme "From Dreams to Leadership: Journey of IPA Boards," this activity is expected to inspire students to understand their potential role in shaping the future of Indonesia's energy sector. Furthermore, the program aims to equip the younger generation with perspectives on leadership and resilience in navigating the global dynamics of the energy and oil and gas sector. Mery Luciawaty, Director of IPA and Director of Development and Production at PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, welcomed the initiative of young people who are concerned about the energy industry.
The program provides a unique experience for participants because they can hear firsthand the experiences of industry players, not just the theory they learn from school. "I think this program is the best fit. Because they truly hear directly from practitioners and professionals," said Mery after speaking at the "Students Meet the IPA Boards" session at IPA Convex 2026 on Thursday (May 21, 2026).
According to her, direct interaction with professionals allows students and young people to confirm things they have previously only learned through books and news reports. Mery believes this experience can motivate young people to understand the real world of work in the energy sector. "They hear from the professionals who do the work, so they can reconfirm what they read in textbooks or the news," she said.
She hopes similar programs can continue to be developed and expanded by involving more companies in the energy sector so that participants gain a more diverse perspective. "I think we should expand the program so that various companies can provide insights for input," Mery said.
IPA Convex is known as one of the largest oil and gas industry events in Indonesia, bringing together government officials, industry players, academics, and the younger generation to discuss the future direction of national energy development.
