Seismic acquisition in the North Sumatra Basin has been implemented since Mobil Oil Indonesia Inc. and ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia Inc. used dynamite sources. The development of technology to improve seismic data has been a key goal for contractors and operators for decades. One such advancement is increasing the productivity of seismic acquisition using vibroseis sources. The AOB-Rayeu Area is one of the prospect in the North Sumatra Basin, known for its shallow hydrocarbons from the Lower Seurula Formation, characterized by a base progradation system. Previously, the AOB-Rayeu area was surveyed using 2D Seismic with dynamite sources, but the data quality and inconsistent vintages resulted in poor data.
PT. Pema Global Energi, the new operator of the “B” Block in North Aceh, Aceh Province, has a definite work commitment in the first year to conduct a 250 km2 3D Seismic acquisition in AOB-Rayeu using vibroseis sources. This selection is considered effective due to the increasing growth of residential areas. Prior to get the stacked data seismic acquisition , a comprehensive set of tests was conducted to define the optimum parameters for the vibroseis source. The vibroseis data acquired was significantly better in quality than the dynamite data, showing greater resolution and penetration. The vibroseis source could be fine-tuned to a specific area by adjusting parameters such as the number of sweeps, sweep length, frequency, and force out. The objective of this paper is to show a comparison of vibroseis parameters of source and determine the best parameters for acquisition.
