Unlocking The Potential of Isolated Data Through Digital Twins An Integrated Platform for Asset Information Management

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 49th Ann. Conv., 2025

Oil and gas operators are increasingly challenged by fragmented data systems that hinder operational efficiency and strategic decision-making. With disparate data sources scattered across legacy systems and new digital platforms, operators struggle to unlock valuable asset’s information. The industry also faces workforce challenges, including the retirement of experienced workers, making the need for streamlined, accessible data more critical.

Typically, these data sources are not integrated, leading to underutilization. This lack of an integrated environment results in issues like low visibility, manual data entry, and data inconsistencies, which raise the risk of unplanned shutdowns, faults, and production losses.

Medco faces similar challenges, where unintegrated information can delay access, impede operations, and pose safety risks. Digital Twin technology offers a solution, providing an automated, seamless information flow between data management applications in operations, maintenance, integrity, and engineering. Acting as a virtual copy of physical assets, Digital Twins help create better asset information integrity.

This paper outlines Medco’s approach to using Digital Twin technology to integrate dispersed data across platforms and applications, enabling quicker, more reliable access for decision-making. Digital Twins enhance collaboration across functions such as operations,
