SUMMARY:
In 2012, Delft Inversion introduced the Wave Equation Based AVO (WEB-AVO) technique to our industry and it has been successfully applied in projects globally steadily demonstrating why it is the next step in AVO Inversion.
In this talk I will introduce the method, its key differences and benefits to conventional AVO inversion schemes and then show its application in two recent projects from Australia. The first is a clastic reservoir in the NW Shelf where residual gas is always a risk and through the use of WEB-AVO this has been mitigated. Then, in the second example, we come onshore and look at how to map a wet gas/condensate reservoir discovered within a massive tight carbonate using WEB-AVO.
Finally, I will discuss how a typical project is scoped. What data is required and the criteria to determine if considering a WEB-AVO study makes sense.

About the Speaker :
John Coffin is the Business Manager Asia-Pacific for Delft Inversion. He is a graduate in Geophysics from the University of Leicester & has been employed in the energy industry for over 30 years.
John has worked for Digicon, SSL, Schlumberger, Hampson-Russell, Veritas and CGG in a variety of roles across Seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation. Since 2020 John has represented Delft Inversion in the region steadily growing the application if its WEB-AVO inversion technology & developing users of the HELIOS software.
John is an active member of ASEG, SEG, EAGE, PESA, & SEAPEX.
