Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 31st Ann. Conv., 2007

CDM practices and technology in the past were dedicated to low-end, tedious activities, supported by not so user-friendly tools, in the hands of backroom information specialists, who carried out routine tasks of storing and labeling types of data in isolated silos. As the World tries to increase not only the production base, but also the hydrocarbon reserves to ensure future production, the technical challenges are growing over time. So is increasing as well, the cost of finding and producing those reserves, and the demand of limited available experts. But in order to overcome the Industry challenges of this century, technology innovation is required in all possible grounds aiming to improve performance, and particularly to mitigate risk. CDM technology of the 21st century should respond to current Industry challenges which demand higher operational efficiencies to perform in a constantly increasing competitive market. The main focus should be to enhance the flow of data and information from the corporate repositories to the core business processes, and therefore make those processes more efficient. A better data-process flow will empower people to make economic decisions with more confidence. The evolution of CDM in the 21st Century to address and overcome the Industry challenges is founded on the following principles: Data and Process/Application Independence; Openness, Accessibility and Intelligent Transportability" Integration across the Value Chain; Optimized Business Processes Support; Management of the Asset Team Project Environment; Technical and Economical Scalability Professional CDM services and technology available today, has rapidly evolved in response to functional needs of the Oil and Gas Industry in an increasingly challenging environment. On such highly complex and risky environment, Oil and Gas Companies must rely on advanced new technology that will help them minimize the risk of underperforming.
