5D Interpolation Using Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) Algorithm to Recover and Reconstruct Damaged Seismic Data, a Case Study in Jb Field, North West Java Basin

3D seismic acquisition and processing as well as reprocessing of JB field were conducted during the period of 2008 - 2013. The acquisition study revealed some damaged data and inconsistency in fold distribution caused by acquisition problems. This study was aimed to improve the area with uneven fold coverage and reconstruct damaged data to obtain better images. Five-dimensional (5D) interpolation techniques were used to conduct the study. The Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) algorithm was operated in the space – frequency domain in frequency slices. By representing the data in a Fourier expansion and using data expansion coefficient, the algorithm reconstructed the data at particular spatial locations. Kirchhoff migration algorithm was applied for migration after interpolation. The stacked data was used for delineating the volcanic interval while coherence volume with fault event enhancement process was used to detect the fracture. This case study showed that reconstruction and interpolation techniques could overcome uneven fold coverage and poor data quality. Migrated gather was significantly improved along with improvement in fold coverage, hence producing robust images. The seismic section showed improvement in signal to noise ratio and clarity of volcanic interval. Fracture detection was also enhanced.
