A view from the other side: multinational companies' role in assisting developing countries to comply with customary international environmental law

The spread of multinational companies operation throughout the globe has been frequently associated with the imminent negative impact towards the environment. This perception from time to time has been reinforced by the occurrences of several environmental incidents that allegedly attributable to the multinational companies. It is very unfortunate of knowing the fact that multinational companies operation in fact accelerates the environmental protection awareness and standards in the area where multinational companies operate. This paper shall discuss the multinational companies' roles and strategic partnership with the developing countries' government in promoting the environmental protection and awareness. The multinational companies operation in Indonesia shall be used by this paper as an example how multinational companies have rendered their endless effort in undertaking its role as an ardent environmental compliance agent.
