Integrated Crisis Management Evolution to Respond Novel Incidents - A Literature Review

Crisis and Emergency situations are currently a hot issue in the world, including in oil and gas operations. Nowadays, the source of crises has expanded from their traditional causes to become more complex, including social and geopolitical situations in areas where oil and gas activities take place. Being able to effectively respond to an emergency or crisis event is relevant and even critical to an organization's survival. Establishing an effective Emergency and Crisis Management team is also essential to communicate and effectively respond in the event of a crisis to prevent it from becoming uncontrolled or even escalating into a larger event. The complexities of modern crises require the involvement of many contributors and this demands effective co-ordination for a successful result. Capability in crisis management coordination is a fundamental element of an established organization, as it tests the capacity to provide the appropriate responses at the right time, in order to protect company’s assets and businesses and mitigate the impact of disasters. The purpose of this paper is to present the case that effective crisis management depends upon several factors that may influence an organization's response and prevent crisis situations from escalating.
