Marine safety process at Chevron Kalimantan Operation

Chevron Kalimantan Operation (KLO) is an offshore oil and gas operation that currently operates 58 offshore platforms and 1 FPU (Floating Production Unit). Facilities are located from 15 miles to 110 miles from Balikpapan. Clearly, marine operations play a significant role supporting daily production operations and maintenance activities.Chevron KLO Marine Safety Process is one of Chevrons Standardized Operational Excellence (OE) Processes that specifically addresses safety requirements and activities unique to marine operations. It is designed and implemented to ensure that all vessels are fit-for-purpose, meet safety requirements, are operated/maintained by competent personnel and all marine operations are carried out in the safest and most practical manner to prevent accidents and protect the environment. The Vessel Contracting Procedure ensures that contracted vessels are fit-for-purpose. The Competency Management Procedure will assure the competency of key vessel personnel. Vessels shall be periodically inspected at least annually, Marine Contractor CHESM Audit and Vessel Inspections procedure outlines inspection and verification requirements. A safety culture shall is fostered in all personnel involved in marine operations.Chevron marine operation standard operating procedures standardize all high risk/critical marine operations and ensure that they are carried out in the safest and most practical manner. The following procedures are deemed critical to safe marine operations and have been standardized by Chevron. Personnel transfer in the marine environment. Cargo handling operations on vessels engaged in marine activities. Anchor handling / anchoring at or near Chevron operations.
