Operation Optimization through GTS Preservation Using Holistic Project Management Approach: Case Study of GTS-H

Tunu Gathering and testing Satellite (GTS) is an unmanned installation collecting well production prior to further compression and exported to Bontang LNG plant. Typically, Tunu GTS consist of gas wells, flowline, manifold, pigging facility, test separator, relief system, and utility system. Having more than 20 years of production and development of the Tunu Field, 4 out of 39 Tunu GTS’s are currently low producers, which are proposed to be preserved. GTS-H was selected as pilot preservation case, executed through a holistic project management approach. The project is started with robust conceptual study, detail engineering, HAZOP, material reservation, then continued with site execution and close out. Conceptual study showed that preservation scheme is applicable for GTS with remaining stakes less than 0.5 Bcf, production lower than 0.5 MMscfd, and no future development well to be connected. Cost and benefit review in the conceptual showed very interesting figure, potential OPEX saving of US$ 116,000 per year by spending less than US$ 60,000. In addition, 4042 man-hours per year could also be optimized by less operator visit, prolonged maintenance, inspection, and well intervention scheme. Moreover, further optimizations were identified during detail engineering by applying combined preservation fluid and minimizing full rated blinds usage. During execution phase, optimizations were including dummy spool instead of flowline support, high flexibility of planning, close monitoring of budget expense. With all efforts above, the GTS-H preservation project was completed safely, ahead of schedule, and all the challenges were overcome. As other benefit, 156 reusable materials were recovered and successfully reintegrated into spare stock. This initiative shows TEPI commitment to optimize operation scheme without sacrificing asset integrity. Moreover, this pilot case is a robust methodology to be populated for other non productive GTS.
