Petroleum System Identification using Spectrally Decomposed Gravity Data: Case Study of Surabaya Area

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 42nd Ann. Conv., 2018

East Java Province has 42 basins with oil and gas potential and one of the basins is located in Surabaya. The discovery of oil seepage and the signs of former well exploitation in some areas such as Krukah and Wonokromo are manifestations of an active petroleum system. However, Surabaya City has a high population level, causing investors to think twice about exploration and exploitation activities. Given the potential that exists, the aims of this research are to determine the subsurface geological structure patterns in order to review and ascertain the latest condition of the petroleum system in Surabaya. In this research we have measured gravity data at 144 points in the Surabaya area with a distance between points of 500 meters and distance between lines of 2.5 km. There are 6 lines with 24 points each line and a total research area is about 12 km x 10 km. An analysis of the data shows the subsurface geological structure patterns and the identification of petroleum system in Surabaya.
