Re-Evaluation Of Miocene-Pliocene Carbonates Prospects In The Kutai Basin Using Integrated Well, Seismic And Gravity Analysis

Kutai Basin of East Kalimantan is host to many gas and oil fields with main reservoirs in Miocene fluvio-deltaic channel sandstones. Limestones form only a subordinate lithology in this area and carbonate development is restricted both temporally and spatially. Previous studies on the carbonates deposited on the southern and eastern side of the basin mostly found that the reservoir potential of carbonate is limited due to the lack of porosity, trap and sealing capacity. The studies were mostly based on seismic stratigraphy and well log analysis. This paper reevaluates the reservoir potential of the Miocene-Pliocene carbonate deposited in the middle area using integrated seismic stratigraphy, well-log, seismic attributes and gravity analysis. Seismic data used is 2D seismic. Presence of multiple sideswipes and velocity related noises in the 2D seismic obscure the true subsurface structure. The combined gravity data from satellite, marine and land surveys was applied to evaluate the presence of traps which obscure in 2 D seismic data. The main integrated seismic methods are AI inversion, velocity analysis and complex attributes which applied to evaluate the carbonate porosity and sealing capacity. Overall integration of the seismic and gravity methods shows that the porosity of carbonate, sealing rock and traps are developed well in the studied area.
