Reducing Uncertainty in Well Daily Production Figure by Artificial Intelligence

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 41st Ann. Conv., 2017

Thousands of gas wellmeters in TEPI use orifice type. Monitoring of daily production is very important for:monitoring it’s deliverable potential, flow alarm, and to calculate precise shortfall analysis. Simplified calculation based on AGA-3 which currently utilized, requires method to define flow rate compensation factor and correction of wet gas factor. However, considering that the Mahakam Block is already on Brown Field phases, where there is missing of data base orifice parameter, that triggers the system operating out of their envelope with variance parameter fluctuating over the time. ,utilizing AGA-3 as the only basis of calculation results in high uncertainty In a situation where production declining is experienced, it is not economically feasible to change hundreds of orifices in accordance with current flow rate, due to cost and productionshortfall issue. As such, the only suitable solution is to carry on with existing installed orifice and create innovation to overcome it’s associated drawbackssuch as: Orifice bore diameters which are too large for declining flow rate, low operating differential pressure, declining pressure, missing parameter data for old installations, inadequate man power to regularly calibrate instruments and inspect orifice bore, and fluctuating water breakthrough on the well. We created a new method of metering calculation based on artificial intelligence mentioned above, which requires the well test reference figure and uncertainty values of the observed meter as an input for the calculations parameters represented in 1 chart for visualization, then determine how to generate measurement value with a higher confidence based on the well test reference. The result are the coded in one set of rules consisting of several if-then-else formula (Fuzzy logic) to result in new K and Cw constants (flow rate compensation factor and correction of wet gas factor respectively) to correct each meters. This new method was developed internally within Total EP Indonesie, and has never been published, The benefits of utilizing this calculation method is as follows: 1. No additional cost because the software is based on existing software (i.e.macro Excel, PDMS and Plant information). 2. It reduce the necessity to frequenty calibrate the well instrumentation. Any Any uncertainty due to instruments itself have 3. Already compensated in the if-then-else rules. 4. Optimization of the operating expenditure (i.e.man power activity cost). Keywords: artificial intelligence, daily production monitoring, orifice meter, out of envelope, AGA-3, well test reference.
