Simultaneous Operations Implementation (SIMOPS) in the Sisi-Nubi Fields

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 32nd Ann. Conv., 2008

The first approach to be taken when performing drilling or major construction work during on-going production operations is to stop production and then perform the work in safe manner. In certain cases where production level has to be maintained, the drilling or major construction work is performed while production activity is ongoing. It is these activities that are considered to be simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) and there are two types of SIMOPS considered in TOTAL, namely: Drilling-Production and Construction-Production SIMOPS. SIMOPS have been used in TI for several years in different fields such as Tambora, Tunu, Peciko, and Sisi-Nubi. The Sisi-Nubi fields are offshore East Kalimantan and successfully started production on 20 November 2007 with the opening of the first well, NB 201 at a rate of 35 MMscfd. There are three production platforms operating in the field and two of them are undergoing Drilling-Production SIMOPS. The following paper describes how the SIMOPS are working and implemented in the Sisi-Nubi fields.
