Steam Injection Huff and Puff Using Key Well Identification Method in The Batang Field

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 43rd Ann. Conv., 2019

The Batang field is located on the central part of Sumatra Island. This field produces from two formations, Duri and Bekasap formations at relatively shallow depths (125-525ft). The reservoirs are unconsolidated. Oil viscosity will increase with reducing temperature. To overcome this problem, PHE Siak can apply several alternative solutions to increase production. The alternative solutions considered are Huff and Puff (H&P) of 2 BBTU** , H&P 3 BBTU, chemical stimulation, and downhole heating. The alternative solutions are compared based on the source of the material and other parameters, , the frequency of operation, the effect on temperature and viscosity, and the effect on the surrounding wells. Comparison of alternative solutions shows that H&P is still the best solution for overcoming the main problems. The paper presents identification of huff and puff key wells and case study of the Batang-24 well in Batang Field. The discussion will be limited to the technical aspects which include reservoir, production and geological studies and other parameters. The selection of Huff and Puff well candidates using the key well and clustering method by evaluating the reserve, temperature, production, substructure, and subsurface parameters provides good results in increasing oil production in Batang Field as well as increasing knowledge about the relationship of a well with surrounding wells. Batang-24 H&P production gain is one of the contributions of the Batang Batang production. The biggest contributions came from wells Batang-72 and Batang-24. Overall H&P contributed to returning oil production in Batang Field from initially 1556 BOPD in June 2018 to 1711 BOPD on August 10 2018 with a contribution of Batang-24 H&P of 215 BOPD (Based on well test with an accuracy of 60-70%).
