The Use of Biodiesel from Glycerol Acid to Optimize EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) Methods for Increasing Oil and Gas Production

Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 41st Ann. Conv., 2017

The authors have conducted analysis of geoscience data against the use of biodiesel as renewable fuel energy in the petroleum industry sector. This analysis aims to estimate the amount of energy needed in the process of using biodiesel oil through injection EOR methods to increase efficiency in the production of oil and gas. At the tertiary phase of EOR, the estimated amount of biodiesel from animal fat (glycerol acid) will be channeled to the gas pipeline for thermal injection particularly to reduce the viscosity of the fluid for production process. This process will require greater energy to reduce the viscosity of the fluid, and then will have an affect in working system injectors by EOR methods. With this energy utilization, work efficiency can improve so that large energy machines can be more efficient and use more environmentally friendly fuel than previously used. A further benefit is that oil and gas production will increase quickly and become more economical. So from this method, we obtained large biodiesel energy efficiency and production quantities of oil and gas after using biodiesel energy of 30-60%, compared to 20-40% using primary and secondary recovery for 5 years. By harnessing the energy of biodiesel as a fuel for pipe drilling especially in the method of EOR where this fuel is more energy-efficient and more environmentally friendly than the fuel pipe drilling in general (solar) and through calculations, we have obtained energy savings of fuel of between 30% -60%. The fuel saving will be more significant and increase productivity of oil and gas. So the process of oil and gas production will be faster especially with thermal injection to reduce oil viscosity. This means the heavy oil especially in old wells could still be produced. However, for optimal results it needs to be a correlation with other geophysical methods and will ultimately bring many advantages for society. Keywords: EOR, Biodiesel, Oil and Gas Production.
