The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellows & Alumnae Forum

[BANDUNG] The Faculty for the Future program, a flagship program from Schlumberger Foundation, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or Post-doctorate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines at leading universities worldwide. The fellowships represent the Schlumberger Foundation’s long-term investment in a community of highly qualified role models who help narrow the gender gap in STEM disciplines by inspiring more women to study science.

The global forum was held in collaboration with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), on Aug 27-31, 2017, where 44 fellows and alumnae share their experiences and foster cooperation while debating topics of interest. The forum also offers an opportunity for the participants to collaborate, learn from each other, and network with distinguished scientists and other invited speakers.

This forum was also attended by many distinguished and well known public figures in Indonesia as keynote speakers, some to mention are Prof. Pratiwi Pujilestari Sudarmono, MD, PhD – the first Indonesian Woman Astronaut, Ir. Ira Nurhayati Djarot, MSc, PhD. – Director of Research and Development System of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, and Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, MSc. PhD, Head of Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics for Natural Disaster Prevention.

The program’s long-term goal is to generate conditions that result in more women pursuing scientific careers by lowering the barriers women face when entering STEM disciplines, thus reducing the gender gap. Faculty for the Future Fellows are expected to return to their home countries after completion of their studies to contribute to economic, social and technological advancement. (RH/PS)
