The Z Field is located in Offshore Northwest Java (ONWJ). It has been producing since 1986 from the Baturaja Formation reservoir, utilizing Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP) as its artificial lift. However, this field has experienced 20% decline in production per year. The production decline of the Z Field is caused by several main issues, including: Low reservoir flow rate, ESP pump failure, casing collapse, and ESP pump restrictions due to scale. The main issue with the greatest impact that must be addressed immediately, based on the Pareto Diagram analysis, is the low reservoir flow rate. As the production duration continues to increase, the distance between the bottom reservoir and the water contact has narrowed. Therefore, another matrix acidizing method is needed to improve production, ensuring that the implementation of matrix acidizing does not lead to an increase in water production or a decrease in oil production. Innovative, quick solutions are necessary to mitigate these risks. Due to this matter, ONWJ has innovated by developing the matrix acidizing method, a conventional stimulation technique, into SICILIA’s foam acidizing. The length of the wormhole has increased three until four times longer than the previous method.
