Proceedings Title : Proc. Indon. Petrol. Assoc., 49th Ann. Conv., 2025
PETRONAS has actively engaged Indonesia’s oil and gas upstream activities since 2002. Over the decades, a significant number of wells have been drilled and used as offset wells reference to develop well designs, especially in East Java Offshore Area. One of the common challenges in analysing offset wells analysis is insufficient well data and document, such as Final Well Report (FWR), Drilling Daily Report (DDR), and other drilling-related data. This paper will discuss one of the solutions to meet document compliance requirement through data collection improvement in generating FWR automatically.
Lack of data and document safekeeping is normally caused by no standard guidelines and reporting practices, mainly for the wells drilled by other operators in 1980s - 1990s. out of 36 offset wells in East Java Offshore Area drilled by PETRONAS, only 5.5% have meeting our internal document compliance requirement (e.g. Drilling Program, DDR, FWR, etc). Previously, there was a standard for data compliance from PETRONAS Head Quarter, but it could not be fully implemented because the required data was not fully integrated, so with Automation FWR, program is expected to make it easier to meet internal data compliance requirements.
PETRONAS has developed standard process starting from planning, execution, and post drill activity data management system to generate one-click FWR. This integrated and interoperability data management system has minimum data requirements compliance that crucial for digitalizing offset well study analysis.
The pilot test of automated system was successful implemented in recent 2024 Exploration Drilling Campaign of Offshore East Java that is supported by respected stakeholders i.e. SKK MIGAS, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and PETRONAS Head Quarter. This standard data management system is to ensure robust reporting process and efficient data management practices for future drilling campaigns, thereby streamlining the engineers' ability to analyse offset wells with greater efficacy.
