This paper explores a unique Community Investment (CI) program by Harbour Energy in the Natuna Sea Block A operational area that leverages the natural resources of mangrove ecosystems to create sustainable livelihoods. By combining traditional batik techniques with eco-friendly practices, the initiative promotes environmental conservation and empowers local communities. Harbour Energy’s commitment to the welfare of local communities in its operational areas are guided by the principle of 'Giving Aims', focusing on strategic sectors such as education and environment. It is exemplified in this program, where the underutilization of mangrove ecosystems in the area was identified as a significant issue. The local community lacked opportunities to leverage the resources of this ecosystem for sustainable economic development. To address this issue, Harbour Energy, in collaboration with Komunitas Konservasi Mangrove Penyu dan Alam Karang (KOMPAK), launched the 'Mangrove Batik Training' program. Genting Pulur Village, in East Jemaja District, was opted as the program location, encompassing an expanse of 58 hectares of mangrove forestry. The program involved training local residents in the unique process of creating batik using natural dyes extracted from mangrove seeds. The 'Mangrove Batik Training' program has successfully empowered the local community by providing them with sustainable livelihood opportunities. By utilizing natural resources, the program has generated economic benefits and promoted environmental conservation. The program's success is evident in the commercialization of the batik products and their recognition at various events, such as its use in the Anambas Regent candidate debate, along with being worn by state officials on several occasions. This program is projected to obtain an award in the economy creative sector by Anambas’ Government for its novelty and benefits for the local community. This initiative serves as a model for sustainable community investment and highlights the positive impact that corporate social responsibility can have on local communities.
